What kind laptop would be best? What should I consider?

I am wanting to save up money to buy a laptop, with birthday money, for my 16th birthday. I have a very small bedroom so I cannot use a desktop. I do not know much about laptops or desktops. I have been looking, but I get confused with discriptions of lithiom batteries and memory things. What are the good things for a laptop and bad. I am wondering what brand I should get too. My brother has an HP, and it is very cool but internet tends to run slow, and my sis has an Acer, and it seems to work good as well. I need to have space to store picture files, possibly high resolution, gaming files, music files as well as MIDI software and sheet music software. Thanks.
